I must say, as a musician I’ve always loved Mondays, since our typical work week starts around Wednesday or Thursday and goes through the weekend. Once Monday comes, it’s OUR weekend! 🎉
Have you ever found yourself waffling about on a Monday thinking, “I should practice,” or “I need to start securing more work for next month,” etc…?
I used to do that all the time, but I’ve found that by taking a break on your day off has many benefits. EVERYONE needs a break at some point.
Research has shown many positive outcomes of taking a break, but here's 3 benefits that I've found to be 100% true:

Benefit #1
Physically, although the act of playing an instrument or creating music is not strenuous, it still puts strain on your body. Standing on stage for long periods of time with your instrument in hand, hunched over the computer or various instruments in the studio etc... Taking a break from the stage or studio will have wonderful benefits for your physical well being.

Benefit #2
As music isn't physically taxing for the most part, it most certainly is a mental marathon! The sheer brain power used to continuously create, organize, arrange, record, and perform is a lot! By taking time off, your heart health and stress levels will most certainly be nice and chill.

Benefit #3
After constantly giving, giving, giving, in the form of your musical talents – Time off from playing will literally create an opportunity for the "motivation mojo" to be replenished. Come back to the gig or studio with a fresh perspective, or new found inspiration afterward.

During your time-off, it's good to step out of the vacuum that is your own head (all of us creatives are slightly neurotic in that way)! Replenish your inspiration by consuming content from professionals who have accomplished what you're striving to accomplish. My advice is to take a listen to THE CAREER MUSICIAN PODCAST. It has over 150 episodes of interviews from the top musicians in our industry. The wisdom and guidance you'll get from this content will surely reset your mind, and get you primed to work again!

Not there yet with full-time music? It's okay. Do music as much as you can throughout your work week as your schedule permits, but try to, at least, take one full day to yourself to unwind, reflect, and enjoy the present moment.
